The Computex trade fair was host to a variety of devices based on Nvidia’s Tegra platform, like:
· Compal Communications, Inc. CN88 (netbook)
· ICD Ultra (tablet)
· Inventec Applications Corp. Rainbow (netbook)
· Mobinnova Mabo (tablet)
· Mobinnova ViewBook N910 (netbook)
· Pegatron Vivid (netbook)
· Wistron M5 (netbook)
The feature that makes Tegra based devices special is that they have a heterogeneous multiprocessor architecture. Devices based on this platform have a separate CPU, HD video processor, and an ultra low power GPU. These processors are used together or independently to deliver a wonderful experience while utilizing minimal power which ensures a longer battery life.
Pegatron recently showcased its Tegra based netbook called Vivid, which is still a prototype. This netbook has been designed for people who are addicted to social networking and therefore it has dedicated keys for Yahoo, MSN, Skype, and Google. The Vivid comes with a matte-finish display and an integrated battery. The speakers are crammed into a metal-mesh cylinder located at the hinge. It is capable of delivering 1080p video through the HDMI port. Moreover, it has two USB ports, a mini USB port, audio in/out jacks, and a memory card reader. The keyboard is quite responsive and feels good, although the trackpad has keys on its sides, which might be uncomfortable for some.
Pegatron Vivid netbook is only a prototype and hence there is no word on its availability, specifications and pricing.
